Seth Tarver of Jesuit High School (left) powers past Hillsboro High's Chris Gweth during a tie-breaker game ahead of the Metro League playoffs. Jesuit, Hillsboro and Westview High School were tied for first after the regular season with 15-3 records, so they had to play each other to determine seeding for the playoffs. I'm can't remember why, but Jesuit and Hillsboro had to play each other first, with the winner playing against Westview. Jesuit won the game 77-60. The defending state champions, Jesuit went to the 4A State Championship tournament again in 2006, but they finished third.

Seth Tarver, who will be playing for Oregon State University this year, comes from a long line of top-notch athletes. As noted in the Oregonian:

[He] will not be the first Tarver to roam Gill Coliseum -- or compete in college athletics. Seth's father, John, played running back in the NFL in the 1970s. Older brother Shon was a standout basketball guard at UCLA in the early 1990s and older sister Taryn competed on the track team at the University of Oregon.

Two other Tarvers have landed in Corvallis. One brother, Zach, will be a redshirt sophomore on the OSU football team next season. And Josh, who played with Seth for three years at Jesuit, is redshirting on the Beavers' basketball team this season. (Jan. 24, 2006)
