Dustin Kreger winces in reaction to a referee's call while getting his foot taped in the third quarter of the Prospectors' game against Valley Catholic Feb. 23, in Beaverton. The Valiants won 47-39 to advance to the 3A quarterfinal round in Salem next week. The loss eliminated Grant Union from the playoffs.
Last week I covered the Grant Union HS boys in their 3A basketball playoff game against Valley Catholic HS for the Blue Mountain Eagle (Grant Union and the Eagle both from John Day, Ore.). You can see their report (and a couple more of my photos) here. The Prospectors lost, but I got some good images. These two didn't make the paper, but I like them.
Meanwhile, Valley Catholic (a Beaverton school) is doing very well in both the boys and girls tournaments in Salem. In the quarterfinals, the boys came back from a 9-point deficit with less than two minutes remaining to beat the top-ranked team. They are playing against Riverside as this is written.
The girls' team won their quarterfinal match last night, and will play against Burns this evening.
Grant Union players collect their bags after losing their playoff game against Valley Catholic. The loss eliminated the Prospectors from the playoffs.
