Street of Dreams 2008 Sunday, September 14, 2008

Not much to say about these ... some interior images I shot last week at one of the homes on this year's Street of Dreams. This home was built by KDC Custom Homes.

[left] I thought this one looked cool in sepia, and I added a bit of grain as well. [below] A shot of the garden in front of the home.

In other news from last week, I interviewed Elsiane on Friday for the next Headliners feature on Northwest CanCon. Later that night I saw them perform at the Wonder Ballroom. Elsiane was excellent.

Delerium, another Canadian act, is headlining the tour. They don't have any official singers; they're touring with Kristy Thirsk who often sings with them, and Leigh Nash whom you might remember as the lead singer for Sixpence None The Richer. I got a chance to say hi to her after the show, which was cool. Delerium's show was ... mostly fantastic, with one major problem. I'll write about that later this week on Northwest CanCon when I post the Elsiane interview.

Homestead Images website update Saturday, July 28, 2007

Portland's Street of Dreams show opened today in Oregon City. You can see Homestead Images albums documenting the construction of the West One Homes (#2), Lakeside Custom Homes (#4), and KDC Construction, LLC (#6) homes on display in the respective domiciles, along with some of our other products.

But for those of you too far away to get to the show, you can now see two of the three on our website, here and here. (Of course, the web versions are much smaller than the actual 12"x12" albums.) Eventually I will get the third documentary up as well, and update the slide show too.

Street of Dreams opens next week Thursday, July 19, 2007

The builders at Portland's 2007 Street of Dreams are busy putting the final touches on their homes as the show gets ready to open next week.

Six builders will be displaying homes in this year's show off Redland Rd. in Oregon City.

Industry night is Wednesday, July 25, followed by the gala reception Thursday night. The homes will be judged on Friday, and the show opens to the public on Saturday, July 28.

The show runs through August 26.

Street of Dreams ... getting close now Wednesday, June 20, 2007

Portland's 2007 Street of Dreams is getting close to completion. The finish carpenters are hard at work installing cabinets and trim work. Electricians are installing the switches, receptacles and faceplates. Interior decorators are putting the final coat of paint on the walls.

The builders will be moving furniture into the houses in about a month. The show opens to the public July 28.

Homestead Images can document your home's construction or renovation, too! Click here for details.

SOD Show updated Thursday, May 17, 2007

Another PSA from the editor: I've just updated the Street of Dreams slide show. The first batch of photos are the same (I did remove a few), but there are about 24 new pictures at the end.

Check it out at www.HomesteadImages.com/SOD_show.html.

Building the Dream Monday, April 02, 2007

I added a big slide show to the Homestead Images website tonight, with images from the three Street of Dreams homes I'm photographing. There's a link on the front page of the Homestead website, or you can just click here.

I know it's pretty long, and incomplete (the homes are still under construction). I'll have to edit out some of the images as I add more. But let me know what you think.

Street of Dreams taking shape Friday, March 23, 2007

A house on Portland's Street of Dreams, being built by West One Homes.

The houses on Portland's 2007 Street of Dreams are starting to take shape. As previously mentioned, Homestead Images has teamed up with three of the six builders to document the realization of their "Dreams" homes.

For most of the homes, the foundations, framing, roofing, and windows have been installed, and the plumbing, wiring and HVAC systems have been roughed-in. Insulation and drywalling are the next steps.

All quiet on the Street of Dreams Wednesday, January 17, 2007

Snow-covered equipment sits idle today at the site of the 2007 Street of Dreams in Oregon City. Many schools and businesses were closed today after yesterday's snowstorm left Portland's roads icy and treacherous.

When I went to bed on Monday evening, the weather forecasters were betting on just a trace of snow falling Tuesday morning in the Portland metro area. By the time I got up on Tuesday morning, there was already more than an inch on the ground, and it kept falling until mid-morning. By the time it stopped, two to four inches had fallen across the city.

In the City of Roses, where schools seem to close for even a heavy frost, chaos ensued. While ODOT and city crews worked hard to clear the roads, it was just too much for them to handle. The TV news stations played almost continuous footage of cars sliding down the roads bouncing off one another, or just getting stuck going up the slightest hills. Perhaps the craziest video was shot by an amateur just a few blocks from my apartment.

Many kids, who didn't have to go to school, spent the day sledding. Unfortunately, there were dozens of sledding injuries reported, including a 14-year-old boy in Vancouver who was hit by a minivan when he slid out into the street in front of it. Rescuers had to jack up the vehicle to free the boy.

The worst decision, however, had to be the father who was towing his 9-year-old daughter and an 18-year-old friend on an innertube behind his truck. As he was doing donuts in a field, the tube slammed into a brick bench, fatally injuring the girl. Police have said that alcohol was a factor. You can read more about that, also on KGW.

I had plenty to keep me occupied indoors yesterday. Although the roads around my house remained snowcovered this morning, I headed down to the Street of Dreams site outside of Oregon City, where excavation on one of the houses was supposed to start today. (It didn't.)

Homestead Images has made arrangements with three of the six builders (KDC Construction, Lakeside Custom Homes, and West One Homes) to document the construction of their homes. Construction will be complete by early July, and the show is open to the public from July 27 through Aug. 26.
